The Calgary Flames are recalling top prospect Dustin Wolf from the AHL’s Calgary Wranglers the club announced Thursday.
The Gilroy, CA native has made 6 appearances thus far for the Wranglers posting a .924 SV%, 2.34 GAA, and 5 wins. Last season Wolf was named the AHL’s goaltender of the year following a breakout campaign where he earned 42 wins, 7 SO’s, a 2.09 GAA, and .932 SV%.
Wolf has made 1 NHL appearance in his career, coming last April against the San Jose Sharks where he earned his first career victory. A former 7th round pick (214th overall) from the 2019 NHL Entry draft, Wolf comes in at a time where the Flames are hoping for a spark following a slow start to the year.
Winners of their past two contests, Calgary currently sits 6th in the Pacific division with a 4-7-1 record. The team has also given up the 6th most goals per game with 3.5 GA/GP through their first 12 games.
Set to become an RFA at season’s end, Calgary nearly added Wolf to their roster out of training camp, but opted instead for him to get in some additional starts at the AHL level. After a strong start to the 2023-24 campaign, and less than stellar performances from Jacob Markstrom (.896 SV%, 2.91 GAA) and Dan Vladar (.844 SV%, 4.00 GAA), Wolf now has the opportunity to carve out a sizable role for himself if he’s able to replicate that same level of success at the NHL level.
