Everton has relieved manager Sean Dyche of his duties effective immediately the club confirmed on Thursday.
Dyche, who took over for Frank Lampard back in 2023, has guided Everton to a 3-8-8 record through 19 Premier League contests. With 17 points, the Toffees sit 16th overall on the table, 1 point clear of the relegation zone.
Though the club has been rather stout defensively, having conceded only 25 goals on the season, their inability to score goals ultimately was Dyche’s undoing. Everton has mustered only 15 goals on the year, with only last place Southampton having notched fewer.
“Everton Football Club can confirm that Sean Dyche has been relieved of his duties as Senior Men’s First Team Manager with immediate effect,” read a statement from the club.
“Ian Woan, Steve Stone, Mark Howard and Billy Mercer have also left the Club. The process to appoint a new Manager is underway and an update will be provided in due course.”
“Under-18s Head Coach Leighton Baines and Club Captain Seamus Coleman will take charge of first-team affairs on an interim basis.”
The decision to move on from Dyche comes less than a month after U.S. based firm the Friedkin Group completed its acquisition of the club. Executive chairman Marc Watts previously stated that the American ownership group were “committed to leading Everton into an exciting new era both on and off the pitch.”
Everton are also readying to move to a new riverfront stadium in Liverpool next season after 132 years at Goodison Park. And with the club currently flirting with the relegation zone, evidently the new owners weren’t keen to begin their new residency outside of the Premier League.
The Toffees are next in action on Wednesday, January 15th against Aston Villa who are 9-5-6 on the year thus far.
