Diamondbacks Place Michael Soroka On IL

The Arizona Diamondbacks are placing right hander Michael Soroka on the 10-day injured list due to inflammation in his right shoulder the team announced.

The injury marks the second time this season that Soroka will miss time, having previously been out for nearly 2 months with a strained glute earlier this year. He’ll join Zac Gallen (elbow), Ryne Nelson (elbow) and Corbin Burnes (elbow) on the IL as Arizona suddenly finds themselves short on starters in the homestretch of the season.

Though he’s been limited to just 18 games this season, Soroka has been effective when healthy. Currently sporting an 8-4 record with a 3.40 ERA and 91Ks across 95.1IP, the righty has been a stabilizing force since inking a 1 year, $7.5M deal with the D-Backs this offseason.

Originally drafted 28th overall by the Atlanta Braves back in 2015, the 29 year old has spent time with the Braves, White Sox, Nationals, Cubs, and Diamondbacks since debuting in 2018. Soroka was named an All-Star in 2019, and was enjoying a bounce back season after an up and down 2025 MLB campaign.

The injury couldn’t have come at a worse time for Arizona who find themselves in a dog fight for the final NL wildcard spot at the moment. The team sits 2 games back of the San Diego Padres, and are 4-6 in their last 10 contests, due in part to their depleted starting rotation.

In a corresponding move, the club recalled RHP Gerardo Carrillo from AAA Reno. Carrillo has pitched 13.2 innings at the MLB level this season, making 8 appearances in a relief role. His 0.66 ERA and 15 strikeouts have been a positive step forward for the 6’1″ right hander who figures to remain in the bullpen upon call-up.

With Mitch Bratt taking the mound against the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday, Arizona figures to split starts between Merrill Kelly, Brandon Pfaadt and Eduardo Rodriguez when the team kicks off their three game series against the Cubs on Monday.
