The Ottawa Senators announced Friday that they had come to terms with forward Ridly Greig on a 4 year, $13M contract extension.
The deal, which will carry an AAV of $3.25M per season will keep Greig tied to the franchise through the 2028-29 NHL campaign. Originally selected 28th overall in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft by Ottawa, Greig has appeared in 129 NHL games to date, posting 47 points (21G, 26A) and 100 PIMs along the way.
“Ridly has established himself as a key member of our team going forward,” said Senators president of hockey operations and general manager Steve Staios. “He brings a good mix of versatility and tenacity to our forward group.”
“I am grateful to the Ottawa Senators for the opportunity to spend the next four years with this group,” said Ridly Greig. “I am looking forward to continuing to develop and for the chance to win with this team.”
The 22 year old brings versatility to the Senators roster as he’s able to play up and down the lineup depending on the team’s needs on any given night. Despite being fairly average sized at 6′ 188lbs, Greig brings sandpaper to the Nation’s Capital and has a knack for getting under his opponent’s skin.
The Lethbridge, AB native is part of arguably the most important draft class in modern Senators history, joining fellow first rounders Tim Stutzle and Jake Sanderson as young players who have already carved out everyday NHL careers for themselves.
Ottawa is next in action Saturday against the Pittsburgh Penguins in a pivotal matchup between teams vying for a wildcard spot in the Eastern Conference.
