Clayton Kershaw Heads Back To IL

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw was placed on the injured list Saturday due to inflammation in the big toe of his left foot.

Manager Dave Roberts stopped short of placing any kind of timeline on the injury when speaking to reporters, saying that the medical team needed the swelling to subside first. However he did indicate that the team was hopeful Kershaw could return prior to the end of the regular season.

The 36 year old was forced out of his start against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday due to discomfort in his foot. Kershaw has reportedly been battling a bone spur in his foot for several seasons now, with his last start coinciding with a flare up pain wise.

After making his 2024 season debut in July, the lefty has posted a 2-2 record with a 4.50 ERA across 7 Major League games.

Making matters worse for LA is the fact that RHP Joe Kelly, who threw 1.2IP of relief for Kershaw was also subsequently placed on the IL with shoulder inflammation. As a result, the Dodgers were forced to call up right-handers Brent Honeywell and Ben Casparius from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Los Angeles currently boasts an 81-54 record, and sit 5 games clear of Arizona for the top spot in the NL West division. The Dodgers continue their series with Arizona on Saturday night.
