According to reports from several West Coast media outlets, San Francisco 49ers rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall has been shot during a robbery.
Dion Lim of KGO-TV noted that the incident is believed to have happened in San Francisco’s Union Square. Gia Vang of NBC Bay Area reports that Pearsall is in stable condition at a local hospital, and that the suspect is in custody.
The 23 year old wideout was selected in the first round, 31st overall, by the 49ers in this spring’s NFL Draft. Pearsall split time collegiately between Arizona State and Florida, and was viewed as an intriguing addition to San Francisco’s high octane offence.
It’s currently unclear what the severity of Pearsall’s injuries are, or where he was shot, but needless to say it’s unlikely he would be ready for Week 1 of the NFL season. Luckily, news reports have confirmed that the speedy pass catcher did not appear to sustain any life threatening injuries during the incident.
