The Carolina Hurricanes announced Saturday that they had reached a deal with forward Seth Jarvis on a new 8 year $63.2M contract extension.
The new contract features $29.2M in signing bonuses, and locks up one their key offensive pieces for the foreseeable future.
The 22 year old restricted free agent joins Sebastien Aho (signed through 2031-32), Andrei Svechnikov (2028-29) and Jaccob Slavin (2032-33) to form the core of the Hurricanes roster moving forward.
“Seth is a cornerstone player for our franchise,” GM Eric Tulsky said in a statement. “He took another huge step last season, playing in all situations and displaying the skill and competitive drive that will make him a star in this league in the years to come.”
Originally drafted 13th overall by the club in 2020, the Winnipeg native has seen his points total rise from 40 as a rookie in 2021-22 to 67 in 2023-24. Last season also featured the first 30 goals campaign of his career as he notched 33 across 81 contests.
Jarvis has also shown a knack for elevating his game in the postseason thus far, registering 8 points in 14 playoff games as a rookie, 10 points in 15 games as a sophomore, and 9 points in only 11 games last season. That, combined with the fact that he plays a premium position resulted in the Hurricanes front office feeling comfortable dolling out term as part of the new contract as opposed to opting for a bridge deal.
The former WHL standout displayed a tremendous amount of grit last season, playing through a torn labrum and rotator cuff last season, and a broken finger suffered in his team’s first round playoff series vs. New York.
Carolina opens up their regular season at home against the Tampa Bay Lightning on October 11th.
