The Toronto Tempo have added the front court help that they were seeking in the lead up to the WNBA trade deadline after acquiring Aneesah Morrow from the Connecticut Sun. Heading back the other way is a second round pick in the 2028 WNBA Draft, as well as the rights to Maria Kliundikova.
Adding Morrow addresses two major areas for the Tempo: 1) it adds another WNBA ready body to help out with their front court in the wake of multiple injuries to the team’s roster. And 2) it adds a young piece that the team can build around moving forward.
The 23 year old forward is in her second year out of LSU after being selected 7th overall in the 2025 entry draft. Across 20 games with the Sun, she is currently averaging 11.6 points and 8.9 rebounds per game, while shooting 42.1% from the field. Her lack of 3 point ability (currently shooting just 28.4% from beyond the arc) should be masked by a Toronto team that has shown no hesitation to let it fly from three point land in their inaugural season.
Morrow led the NCAA in rebounding twice, and should become a plug and play member of the team’s rotation immediately upon arrival in Toronto. The 6’1″ sophomore is in year 2 of 3 of a deal that will see her earn $364K in 2027. There is then a club option for 2028, followed by restricted free agency in 2029 per Spotrac.
Kliundikova was an expansion draft selection from the Minnesota Lynx. However, she did not report to the Tempo and is not expected to play in the WNBA this season. The 28 year old averaged 4.4 points and 3.0 rebounds per game across 11 minutes of action per night with the Lynx in 2025.
