Avalanche And Rangers Complete Multi-Player Trade

The Colorado Avalanche and the New York Rangers completed a multi-player trade on Saturday, sending picks and prospects between the clubs along with draft rights as well.

The full deal will see the Rangers acquire Calvin de Haan, Juuso Parssinen, a conditional 2nd, and a conditional 4th round pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft. In exchange, Colorado will receive Ryan Lindgren, Jimmy Vesey and the rights to unsigned prospect Hank Kempf.

The Rangers will receive the better of their own or Carolina’s pick in the second round and the better of Carolina’s or Vancouver’s in the fourth round of the draft, while also also retaining half of Lindgren’s salary to facilitate the deal. The 27 year old was a pending UFA with an AAV of $4.5M.

Colorado has been busy in the weeks leading up to deadline day, having already dealt Mikko Rantanen to the Hurricanes in a January blockbuster. And while the deal may appear on the surface to signal the Rangers waiving the white flag on the season, insiders suggest that the club has been interested in Parssinen for some time now and view him as a potential long term replacement for Kaapo Kakko whom the club previously dealt to Seattle.

As it stands, New York finds themselves 4 points back of the final wildcard spot in the Eastern Conference, while Colorado and Minnesota find themselves in a dead heat for the 3rd spot in the Central Division at 72 points apiece.

Lindgren is in his seventh NHL season and has scored 19 points while logging 19:56 of ice time per game for the Rangers. Meanwhile, Colorado will be the sixth NHL franchise for the 31 year old Vesey who has four goals and six points in 33 games this season.

Parssinen and de Haan will both look to play depth roles for the Rangers when they head out east. The 24 year old was previously acquired from the Nashville Predators in exchange for a 2027 3rd round pick and Ondrej Pavel. The 33 year old de Haan is currently averaging 14:55 of ice time per game in his 13th NHL season.
