Scherzer & de Grom Set To Rejoin Rangers

Texas Rangers pitchers Jacob de Grom and Max Scherzer are set to rejoin the big league club after completing their extended rehab assignments.

Manager Bruce Bochy told reporters on Sunday that “[de Grom]’s ready to start here…Same with Max. Both had great outings, terrific outings.” Rangers management stopped short of laying out exact timelines for the former Cy Young winners returns, however it’s believed that the club is targeting Friday for de Grom’s MLB return.

For the former Mets standout, it will be his first MLB game since April 28th, 2023 prior to undergoing surgery on his throwing arm. “I’m really excited to be back out there,” deGrom said. “It’s the next step — big league games, big league hitters.”

Meanwhile, Scherzer looked dominant in his most recent outing for Triple-A Round Rock as he works his way back from a shoulder fatigue issue.

With only 18 games left in the 2024 regular season, Texas would need a miracle to claw their way back into the Wildcard race. Currently sporting a 70-74 record, the defending World Series champions sit 6.5 games back of Minnesota for the final spot in the American League.

That being said, for de Grom, returning to the mound is less about a playoff push and more so to prove that he’s back to 100% health.

Texas has an off day on Monday before returning to action with a 2 game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks beginning on Tuesday September 10th at 9:40pm ET.
