According to reports, the Denver Broncos and cornerback Patrick Surtain II have reached an agreement on a new 4 year, $96M contract extension.
The deal is believed to feature $77.5M in guaranteed money, and will kick in during the 2026 NFL campaign. As a result, Surtain will be tied to the Denver franchise through the 2029 season.
Newly minted as the top paid cornerback in the NFL, Surtain will hope to elevate a Broncos defence which had few bright spots in 2023. As a unit, Denver’s defence ranked 29th in the league last season, allowing 370.8 yards per game on average.
The 24 year old DB has already earned 1st team All-Pro honours in 2022, and earned a Pro Bowl selection in each of the last two seasons. Originally taken 9th overall by the Broncos in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Alabama, the versatile 6’2″ defender has established himself as one of the prominent shut down corners in all of football.
The son of former NFL player Patrick Surtain, the Florida native has grown up around the sport for his entire life and is viewed as one of the leaders inside the Broncos locker room. Entering this season, Surtain II was set to play out his 5th year rookie option in 2025, but was eligible to sign an extension at any point.
With the deal now seemingly solidified, Denver’s front office can turn their attention to Week 1 when the Broncos travel to Seattle to take on the Seahawks in a 4:05pm ET showdown on Sunday.
