According to reports, the New England Patriots are sending wide receiver Kayshon Boutte to the Houston Texans in exchange for safety Jaylen Reed and a 2028 7th round pick.
The pick is believed to be Saints pick which was acquired by Houston in a previous deal. Boutte heads to Houston as the team looks to add some pass catching depth in the wake of Jayden Higgins’ season ending ACL tear.
Boutte is set to begin his 4th NFL season, and is coming off his most successful year as a pro in 2025. The former LSU standout posted 46 catches for 551 yards and 6 TDs in 14 games with the Patriots last season. He would go on to add another 9 receptions for 168 yards and 1 TD in 4 postseason games en route to his team’s Super Bowl LX berth vs. Seattle.
Coming back the other way is 2025 6th round draft pick (187th overall) Jaylen Reed, who spent his collegiate years at Penn State. The 23 year old safety appeared in 7 games for Houston last year, recording 14 tackles, and a fumble recovery. He’ll add some depth to a New England secondary that already features the likes of Carlton Davis III, Craig Woodson, Kevin Byard III, Christian Gonzalez, and Marcus Jones.
The Patriots will look to kick off their 2026 NFL season on September 9th against the Seahawks, while the Texans will play host to the Buffalo Bills on September 13th.
