Former USC Trojans head coach Pete Carroll is returning to the school, this time as a teach for the upcoming school year.
Carroll didn’t specify which courses he would be teaching, but did say that he would begin teaching in the spring semester during a recent radio appearance. The 72 year old made the statement during his first public interview since being let go by the Seattle Seahawks.
“I’m excited about it because there’s more stuff to teach,” he said. “There’s more stuff to share. Everybody wants to know what I’m doing and all that, am I coaching or what am I doing, I’m working with some really fun people and some exciting opportunities to do some really cool stuff and putting things together … for others, so I’m going to keep working that way and see what happens.”
When asked whether he had any contact with any members of the Seahawks organization since his dismissal, Carroll indicated that he had mostly been working on non-NFL projects to date.
“I haven’t talked to those guys at all,” he said. “I ran into Mike in the parking lot one day, and it was a great chance to just, the two of us alone, to meet, say hey and kind of get greeted, and on we go. I have not had much to do with them in any way, and really I’m just watching the games a little bit when I see them on TV. I’m not paying that much attention to it because it just feels like it’s the right thing to do to let them go. I don’t really have any opinion other than they’re really hardworking and it’s a really smart group of guys, and I know that they have a good group around them to build on and it sounds like they’ve done some really good things.”
A 2x National Champion, and winner of Super Bowl XLVIII, Carroll said he hasn’t ruled out a return to the sidelines in the future, but that for now his focus would be on the classroom.
