The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired reliever Yohan Ramirez from the New York Mets in exchange for cash considerations the clubs announced Monday.
Ramírez, owns a career 4.29 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and six saves over 112 relief appearances across his five-year MLB career. The 29 year old has been designated for assignment three times this season, twice by the Mets and once by the Orioles after registering a 6.91 ERA in 14.1IP between the clubs this year. That being said, according to Statcast, his expected ERA is over three runs lower (3.78), suggesting that he’s been the victim of some bad luck in 2024.
The Dodgers have yet to announce a corresponding transaction to add Ramirez to the roster. They’ll need to open both a 40-man spot and a 26-man spot in order to add the RHP. Ramirez has averaged 95.3 mph on his four-seamer and 94.8 mph on his sinker this season, while coming in around the league average in terms of inducing ground balls.
While the 6’4″ righty’s numbers won’t jump off the page, LA is in desperate need of relievers at the moment as they currently have Brusdar Graterol, Evan Phillips, Joe Kelly and Ryan Brasier on the injured list.
The Dodgers kick off their three game series vs. the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday before hitting the road for a 6 game road trip.
