The Seattle Kraken have signed defenseman Vince Dunn to a 4 year/$29.4M contract extension the club announced Friday.
The new deal, worth $7.35M in terms of AAV, will keep the 26 year old in the Pacific Northwest through the 2026-27 NHL campaign, and contains a modified no trade clause.
Originally selected 56th overall by the St. Louis Blues in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, Dunn was acquired by Seattle in the 2021 Expansion Draft after the Blues elected to protect Colton Parayko, Torey Krug, and Justin Faulk instead. The Mississauga, ON native posted career highs in virtual every category last season including: goals (14), assists (50), points (64), +/- (+28), time on ice (23:40), and powerplay points (15).
The deal also avoids an arbitration hearing with the restricted free agent, which was previously scheduled for July 24th.
Dunn has thrived in a top 4 role since joining the Kraken, and was a huge reason why the club was able to not only qualify for the playoffs in 2022-23, but to also knock out the defending Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche as well.
Dunn becomes the third player from the team’s expansion draft to sign a multi-year extension with the franchise joining Jared McCann and Will Borgen. The 2019 Stanley Cup champion is now the largest AAV contract in franchise history.
In terms of real money, Dunn’s contract will be structured as follows:
2023-24: $9M salary
2024-25: $8M salary (full no-trade clause)
2025-26: $7M salary (16-team no-trade list)
2026-27: $5.4M salary (16-team no-trade list)
