VIKINGS FIRST ROUND WR, JORDAN ADDISON, CITED BY POLICE FOR DRIVING 140MPH IN 55MPH ZONE
Minnesota Vikings first-round draft pick Jordan Addison was issued a citation for speed and reckless driving on Thursday, as reported by NFL Network’s Clayton Holloway.
Addison was pulled over by Minnesota State Patrol outside of St. Paul at 3am on Thursday morning. The former USC wide receiver was driving his Lamborghini Urus at 140mph in a 55mph zone, a police statement said.
“Just after 3am, early Thursday morning,” the police report read. “A Minnesota State Patrol trooper was travelling eastbound on Interstate 94 near Dale Street when they observed a driver in a Lamborghini Urus travelling 140 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone. The trooper made a traffic stop on the Lamborghini and identified the driver as Jordan Addison, 21, of Frederick, Maryland.”
According to the report, Addison was alone in the vehicle and did not resist or have any weapons. The 21-year-old was then issued a speed and reckless driving citation before he was allowed to go on his way. The stop took approximately 20 minutes and the young receiver was not arrested. Minnesota police are currently leaving the case open for investigation.
The Minnesota Vikings released a statement regarding the citation saying: “We are aware of last night’s traffic incident involving Jordan Addison and are gathering additional information.”
The 2021 Fred Biletnikoff-award winner isn’t the first Vikings player with driving violations this summer. According to KSTP, Vikings offensive lineman Oli Udoh was also cited twice for the same infraction in May, including being pulled over for traveling 97mph in a 55mph zone.
Udoh was then cited a third time for reckless driving near Interstate 35E and Cayuga Street in St. Paul. The four-year veteran was allegedly weaving in and out of traffic at a high speed and driving in the carpool lane without a passenger.
Addison was selected 23rd overall in this year’s draft after a strong season at USC in 2022, where he accounted for 908 total yards and 8 total touchdowns with the Trojans. A star wide receiver both at the University of Pittsburgh in 2021 alongside Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett, and at USC this past year, Addison is expected to complement last year’s Offensive Player of the Year, Justin Jefferson.
Both Jefferson and Addison are explosive playmakers and should provide ample target options for quarterback Kirk Cousins in 2023, along with former Lions TE TJ Hockenson. The Maryland-native was tapped to fill the shoes of long-time Vikings receiver Adam Thielen, who the team previously let go in a salary cap move in early March.
Addison has yet to practice with the Vikings because of an undisclosed injury he suffered during rookie minicamp but head coach Kevin O’Connell said last month he expects the young wide out to be a full participant at training camp.
Vikings rookies are set to report to training camp on Sunday as we draw nearer to football season. Veterans report on Tuesday next week and the team has its first on-field work scheduled for Wednesday.
