Bad news for Blues fans as the team announced Sunday that goaltender Jordan Binnington will be sidelined for the remainder of the 2nd round with a lower body injury.
The St. Louis netminder was forced to leave Game 3 against the Colorado Avalanche after a collision with Avalanche forward Nazem Kadri. Kadri, who has been suspended in the playoffs 3 times previously, made contact with Binnington following a loose puck with 13:15 remaining in the 1st period.
Up to that point, Binnington had stopped all three shots he faced. In his absence, Ville Husso gave up 4 goals on 23 shots as the Blues ultimately lost the game 5-2. Colorado now leads the best of seven series two games to one.
Following the game, Blues coach Craig Berube wasn’t convinced that the collision was an accident, remarking “Look at Kadri’s reputation… That’s all I’ve got to say”. The sentiment seems to be shared by Binnington as well, as during a post game interview with TNT, it appears as though the fiery goaltender threw a water bottle at Kadri.
According to TSN’s Frank Seravalli, Kadri will not be facing additional discipline, however a fine could be incoming for Binnington if it’s determined he was the culprit behind the water bottle toss.
Thus far in the 2022 Stanley Cup playoffs Binnington had posted a 4-1 record with a 1.72GAA and .949SV%.
Game 4 takes place Monday night at 9:30pm ET in St. Louis.
