Fabio Vieira is a Gunner

Arsenal FC are very close to adding a new player to their squad, according to sources. Fabio Vieira, a Portuguese midfielder coming from Porto FC, is expected to sign his contract this Friday with the club in North London and start his journey as a gunner.

According to the Portuguese tabloid A Bola, the English club will pay €34 million to get the 22-year-old midfielder plus add-ons worth up to €5m. It is also said that Vieira will sign a five-year deal once the move is complete.

The Portuguese maestro has spent his whole career at the club in the North of Portugal, while becoming one of the most important players on Portugal’s U21 national team.

Since Vieira was promoted to Porto’s senior team in the summer of 2020, the midfielder played 76 matches, scored 10 goals and won three titles wearing the Dragões’ jersey, along with a UEFA Youth League in 2019 with Porto’s U19 team.

When it comes to the senior Portuguese national team, so far, the midfielder has not been invited to join the squad. However, Vieira is the captain of The Seleção U21 and he has been capped 21 times thus far. In addition to his positive stats, the midfielder was elected the best player of the UEFA Under 21 Championship in 2021, when Portugal lost the championship final to Germany.

The Portuguese national is a talented player and has been able to play in different positions throughout the attacking third. Last season, Vieira played as both attacking midfielder and right winger, and he had good performances in both positions.

In addition to his versatile style, Vieira had the second highest number of assists in the Liga Portugal with 13, two less than the best assist provider in the league, Rafa.

As reported by the English newspaper The Sun, Manchester United and Tottenham were also interested in signing the youngster. However, the Portuguese midfielder decided to join the Gunners and will be one more option to Mikel Arteta’s midfield.

According to A Bola, Vieira was in Greece on vacation before heading to London to sign the contract with Arsenal.
