Newcastle United have completed a club-record signing to bring in striker Nick Woltemade the club announced. The Magpies have agreed to pay £64.86m (€75m) plus £4.3m (€5m) in add-ons for the German forward.
Woltemade becomes the 7th acquisition of the summer transfer window for the Newcastle, joining Antonito Cordero, Anthony Elanga, Aaron Ramsdale, Seung-soo Park, Malick Thiaw, and Jacob Ramsey.
“I’m really happy to be at this amazing club. From the first contact, I felt like the club really wanted me and had big plans for me,” Woltemade told reporters.
“I know the stadium from watching games on television – it looks amazing and I know the atmosphere is crazy. I’m really excited to play and start scoring goals here.”
The 6’6″ German international figures to eat up some of the playing time left void by Callum Wilson’s departure. Woltemade will reportedly wear number 27 for Newcastle and should play a prominent role in the club’s lineup from the get go.
“He’s strong in a lot of areas,” said head coach Eddie Howe. “He has great technical ability and has proven himself to be a real threat in one of Europe’s top leagues – but he’s also still at an age where he has plenty of room to develop and grow here.”
The 23 year old comes over from Bundesliga side Stuttgart, where he scored 12 league goals, and 17 across all competitions in 2024-25.
With the summer transfer window set to close on September 1st, it remains to be seen if Newcastle plans any more last minute additions to their squad. There remains some uncertainty surrounding last season’s top scorer Alexander Isak, who could be on his way out of town. Recent reports suggest that Liverpool have been inquiring about Isak’s availability, which could necessitate another move by the Magpies if he were to leave.
Still, the addition of Woltemade is a big one, both figuratively and literally, though fans may need to wait until after the international break to see their new forward on the pitch.
