Seattle Mariners outfielder Victor Robles will begin a 7 game suspension on Friday stemming from a bat tossing incident in a minor league rehab game.
Robles, who has missed most of the 2025 MLB campaign after dislocating his shoulder in April, threw his bat at Las Vegas Triple-A pitcher Joey Estes after nearly being hit by a pitch in the 3rd inning of a game on August 17th. Robles was immediately ejected, and initially suspended for 10 games. However, upon appeal, his suspension was dropped down to 7 games, which he will begin serving as his team takes on the Cleveland Guardians on Friday.
In the aftermath of the incident, Robles took to his social media accounts to apologize for his actions.
“I want to take a moment to sincerely apologize for my recent reaction on the field,” he wrote in an Instagram story. “I let my frustration get the best of me, and I understand how that may have affected not just the game, but the energy and respect we all work so hard to maintain.”
“Coming off a long rehab and being away from the game for most of the season has been physically and mentally challenging. Adding to that, the recent passing of my mother has been incredibly hard, and I’ve been doing my best to hold it together. That’s not an excuse, but some context I feel you deserve to understand where I’m coming from.”
While Robles’ appeal was being reviewed, the 28 year old appeared in 4 contests with the Mariners, going 2 for 13 along the way. He will first be eligible to return to Major League action on September 6th, when his team takes on the Atlanta Braves.
