Chiefs Extend George Karlaftis On 4 Year Deal

The Kansas City Chiefs have extended defensive end George Karlaftis for the next 4 years after coming to terms on a new $93M contract the club announced.

The deal will feature $62M in guaranteed money and will keep the 24 year old pass rusher in Kansas City through the 2030 NFL campaign. Karlaftis was one of the last remaining pieces of business for the Chiefs front office to handle this offseason following the signing of Pro Bowl guard Trey Smith last week.

“He’s a heck of a player and he’s done a great job here and he’s profiting from that,” coach Andy Reid said. “Our team is also profiting from him being around. It’s a win-win. He’s a relentless player. You can trust him and he’s reliable. You know he’s going to do the right things and go 100 miles an hour doing it.”

Across his first 3 seasons with the Chiefs, Karlaftis has recorded 24.5 sacks, forming a dynamic 1-2 punch alongside defensive tackle Chris Jones. Only Zach Allen, and Trey Hendrickson had more quarterback hits than Karlaftis in 2024. The former Purdue standout will make $23.25M in terms of average annual value on his new deal, making him the league’s 10th highest paid pass rusher.

With his new deal now in place, Kansas City has some cost assurance in place for their front seven for the next several seasons, keeping their window to compete wide open. If Karlaftis is able to take another step forward in his development, the deal could wind up being a bargain for Kansas City in the years to come.
