Diamondbacks Activate Corbin Carroll From IL

The Arizona Diamondbacks are activating outfielder Corbin Carroll from the 10 day injured list prior to Saturday’s game vs. the Kansas City Royals.

Carroll had been sidelined since June 18th with a chip fracture in his left wrist after being hit by a pitch in a game vs. Toronto. The 24 year is expected to return to his usual lead off spot atop the Diamondbacks batting order and start in right field.

Carroll’s return is welcome news to an Arizona squad that initially feared that he could be out past the All-Star break when imaging first revealed the fracture. However, according to reports, Carroll indicated that his wrist had begun to feel better over the last few days, leading to him testing it out in an Arizona Complex league game Thursday and taking batting practice on Friday.

In a corresponding move, the team sent utility man Tim Tawa back to Triple-A.

Prior to going down, the lefty had posted a .255/.341/.573 slash-line with 20 homers and a league-best nine triples, en route to a 149 wRC+ mark on the year. Currently sitting 4.5 games back of the final NL wildcard spot, Arizona will take all the reinforcements they can get at this point of the season as they try to leap frog Cincinnati, St. Louis, San Francisco and San Diego to get back into the playoff mix.

Losers of three games in a row, the Diamondbacks will look to get things back on track Saturday afternoon vs. KC.
