Florida and head coach Todd Golden have agreed to a six-year, $40.5 million contract extension that will keep him in Gainesville through the 2030-31 season
Golden, 39, becomes one of the five highest-paid coaches in men’s college basketball, earning $6.75 million annually after guiding the Gators to a 36-4 season and the program’s third national championship—its first since 2007.
Golden is the youngest head coach to win a national title since Jim Valvano in 1983.
Florida capped its title run with a 65-63 win over Houston, following an SEC Tournament championship and No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament.
Golden took over in 2022 after a stint at San Francisco and quickly turned the program around. He led Florida to the NCAA tournament in Year 2 and delivered a championship in Year 3.
“This university has everything it takes to win at the highest level,” Golden said in a statement. “My family and I are grateful to be part of Gator Nation and excited for what’s ahead.”
Florida AD Scott Stricklin praised Golden’s impact: “Todd has done an incredible job getting Florida men’s basketball back where it belongs.”
Golden’s new deal more than doubles his original salary. He was previously making $3 million per year on his last contract prior to a 2024 extension.
Earlier this season, Golden was the subject of a four-month Title IX investigation following allegations from multiple women. The University concluded the investigation in January, finding no evidence of a violation. The University Athletic Association said in a statement: “Coach Golden demonstrated tremendous focus and professionalism throughout this process.”
Now, with the investigation behind him and a new deal in place, Golden turns his attention to defending Florida’s national title.
