The Los Angeles Dodgers have placed outfielder Teoscar Hernandez on the 10 day IL due to a grade 1 hamstring strain suffered Monday vs. the Marlins.
Hernandez was forced out of the game following the 3rd inning after reporting hamstring tightness. After additional imaging revealed the severity of the injury, the team wasted little time in placing the 32 year old on the IL.
“He doesn’t come out of baseball games, so we put him on the IL,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters on Tuesday.. “Obviously, he’s going to be inactive for a while. I don’t really know what timetable.”
“It’s certainly weeks but I don’t know how long…He’s had a huge impact. Without Teo, you try to balance out the lineup. I think it’s going to be more of a platoon-paced roster right now. And we’ll go from there.”
Hernandez entered the series opener vs. Miami leading the team in RBIs, batting average and home runs.
In a series of corresponding moves, the Dodgers recalled right-handed reliever J.P. Feyereisen from Oklahoma City and designated right-handed reliever Yoendrys Gomez for assignment Tuesday. They then recalled outfielder James Outman from Triple-A Oklahoma City with the expectation that he will start in center field and bat eighth Tuesday.
LA sports a National League best 24-11 record to sit atop the NL West once again. They continue their series vs. Miami on Tuesday and Wednesday before travelling to Arizona to kick off a 4 game series vs. the Diamondbacks.
