With the 111th Grey Cup scheduled for November 17th, the CFL held its annual awards ceremony Thursday night, recognizing the games top players for the 2024 season.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers running back Brady Oliveira was honoured as the top Canadian player for the 2nd straight year, while also earning the George Reed Most Outstanding Player award as well. Oliveira and the Blue Bombers punched their ticket to the Grey Cup for the 5th consecutive season, where they’ll make on the Toronto Argonauts in a rematch of 2022’s 24-23 thriller.
The Winnipeg native becomes only the 4th Canadian in CFL history to win the Most Outstanding Player award joining Jon Cornish (2013), Tony Gabriel (1978) and Russ Jackson (1963, 1966, 1969). Oliveira averaged 5.66 yards per carry, amassing 1,353 yard on the ground and another 476 through the air. His 891 yards after contact, 1,829 yards from scrimmage, and 11 carries of 20-plus yards were all tops in the CFL this past season.
“Even having my name mentioned with those legends is bizarre to me. It’s a little bizarre but it’s an incredible honour,” Oliveira said. “To be up here with two of the most prestigious awards in this league that I’ve been watching since I was a kid…it’s awesome.”
Oliveira beat out Hamilton QB Bo Levi Mitchell for MOP honours. Other winners include:
