Mike Trout Out For Season With Meniscus Tear

Former American League MVP Mike Trout will miss the remainder of the 2024 season with a meniscus tear in his left knee. The news comes on the heels of the Angels announcing that Trout had suffered a setback in his rehab from surgery to repair a prior meniscus related issue.

Trout underwent surgery on his left knee on May 3rd, and was hoping to return to the Major Leagues later this month.

A three-time MVP, Trout hasn’t appeared in more than 119 games across any of the past five seasons due to a variety of injuries. The 32 year old is earning $37.1M this season, which is the sixth year in a 12-year, $426.5M contract with Los Angeles.

There was rampant speculation over the offseason whether the Angels would consider trading the face of their franchise after two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani left via free agency. LA currently sports a 47-61 record in what’s shaping up to be yet another lost season on the west coast.

With their youth movement in full swing, it remains to be seen what their long term plans are regarding Trout, and what the outfielder’s trade value would even be at this point given his extensive injury history.

Los Angeles is next in action Thursday night vs. the Colorado Rockies.
