Georgia Tight End Brock Bowers is set to undergo ankle surgery to address a high ankle sprain sustained in the Bulldogs’ 37-20 win over Vanderbilt.
Bowers is set to undergo a tightrope surgical procedure which is expected to sideline him for 4-6 weeks. The 6’4” 230lb junior currently leads all Georgia pass catchers with 41 receptions for 567yds and 4 TDs.
Projected as a 1st round pick in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft, Bowers had posted 3 consecutive weeks of at least 100 yds receiving and a touchdown prior to going down in the 2nd quarter this past weekend.
Currently ranked number 1 in the nation, Georgia has a bye week coming up, before running through an SEC heavy schedule with contests against Florida, #20 Missouri, #13 Mississippi, and #17 Tennessee. Bowers has emerged as a favourite target of Bulldogs QB Carson Beck, making his absence a particularly impactful one over the next month of football.
With their 20 year old star sidelined, Georgia is expected to turn to 6’5” 245lb sophomore Oscar Delp. Delp currently sits 5th on the team with 13 receptions for 160 yds and 2 TDs.
Georgia hasn’t played a game since 2021 without Bowers on their roster, as the All-American Tight End has been one of the team’s most consistent weapons during his time at the school. The 2022 John Mackey Award winner will return to the field prior to the College Football Playoffs beginning, but the injury almost assuredly knocks him out of Heisman contention.
The Bulldogs are next in action vs. Florida on October 28th in a 10:30pm ET showdown at TIAA Bank Field.
