The Utah Jazz and Keyonte George have come to terms on a new 5 year, $157.5M contract extension on Friday. The deal will reportedly not include a team or player option, and will account for 16% of the Jazz’s total salary cap when it comes into effect.
“Keyonte’s leadership, growth, and commitment to what we’re building make him an integral part of this franchise’s future,” said Utah Jazz President of Basketball Operations, Austin Ainge. “His work ethic, ability to connect with teammates in the locker room and on the floor, and his love for this team and our fans have been incredible to watch. We’re thrilled he’s choosing to remain in Utah as a foundational piece as we continue chasing our ultimate goal: a championship.”
The 22 year old averaged 23.6 points and 6.1 assists per game for Utah last season, while averaging 37.1% from beyond the arc. With top draft pick Darryn Peterson joining the fold, the Jazz figure to have one of the most dynamic young back courts in league when they kick off their 2026-27 NBA season in a few weeks time.
The Lewisville, TX, native had 60.9 true shooting percentage last season, which was good for an increase of seven percentage points from the prior year. When George was on the floor last season, the Jazz offence improved by 5.9 points per 100 possessions, which ranked in the 91st percentile amongst all qualifying guards in the league.
Originally selected 16th overall in the 2023 NBA draft, George has blossomed into reliable piece of Utah’s starting lineup and has helped elevate the team’s rebuild efforts into the next phase.
The Jazz will officially kick off their preseason on October 4th when they take on the Denver Nuggets. This will be followed by 3 more preseason games, before their regular season opener on October 21st.
