Yankees Call Up Slugger Jasson Dominguez

The New York Yankees are promoting outfielder Jasson Dominguez to their Major League roster the team confirmed Monday.

In a corresponding move, the club will option RHP Luis Gil to Triple-A Scranton after another rough outing against the Houston Astros. With Giancarlo Stanton currently dealing with a calf injury, and a few off days in their upcoming schedule, New York will be able to get by with a 4 man rotation, but could use an additional bat in the lineup.

After spending 2025 in the majors, Dominguez was sent back down to Triple-A at the conclusion of spring training to work on his approach against left handed pitchers and his defence. The club opted to go with veteran outfielder Randal Grichuk as their 4th outfielder instead.

The 23 year old top prospect has had a solid start to the season, batting .326 with 3 home runs, 8 stolen bases, and an .893 OPS through 24 games. More importantly, he’s been hitting left handed pitchers much harder than he was last season, posting a home run, and 3 doubles in 15 plate appearances against southpaws.

He’s also cut down his strikeout rate to 15.2% across 99 Triple-A plate appearances in 2026, as he looks like he’s closer to his pre-Tommy John surgery form.

It’s unclear whether the Yankees plan to use Dominguez as a DH in Stanton’s absence, or whether he will see time in the outfield again. The club has generally be using Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger, and Trent Grisham as their trio of fielders, but it’s unlikely that the club would take every day at bats away from Dominguez in the minors just to have him sit on the bench as a depth piece.

Up next for the Yankees is an 8:05pm ET showdown against the Texas Rangers on Monday night.
