Chelsea Fire Liam Rosenior 4 Months Into Role

Chelsea have relieved head coach Liam Rosenior of his duties effective immediately following their 3-0 loss to Brighton on Tuesday.

“On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, we would like to place on record our gratitude to Liam and his staff for all their efforts during their time with the Club,” the team posted to their official website Wednesday.

“Liam has always conducted himself with the highest integrity and professionalism following his appointment midway through the season.”

“This has not been a decision the Club has taken lightly, however recent results and performances have fallen below the necessary standards with still so much more to play for this season. Everyone at Chelsea FC wishes Liam every success in the future.”

“Calum McFarlane will take charge of the team as Interim Head Coach until the end of the season with support from existing Club backroom staff, as we strive to achieve European qualification and progress in the FA Cup.”

“As the Club works to bring stability to the Head Coach position, we will undertake a process of self-reflection to make the right long-term appointment.”

Rosenior was elevated to manager with the club on January 8th, 2026 replacing Enzo Maresca who helped guide the team to the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup title. The 41 year old came over from Ligue 1 side Strasbourg which is owned by Chelsea’s parent company BlueCo.

Currently on a 5 game skid, Chelsea have failed to score a goal in any of their league contests during that stretch for the first time in over a century. The Blues sit in 8th place on the Premier League table with a 13-9-12 record through 34 games.

Liverpool, who sit 6 points clear of Chelsea with a game in hand, occupy the final Champions League group stage spot at the moment. One needs to go all the way back to Mar 4th to find the last time that the historic club tallied either a goal or victory in league play when the Blues downed Aston Villa 4-1.

McFarlane will once again take over in an interim role for the second time in less than 5 months, as he will hope to turn the club’s fortunes around on Sunday when the Blues take on Leeds in the FA Cup semifinals.
