John Fox Added To Bills Coaching Staff

The Buffalo Bills are adding former NFL head coach John Fox to their coaching staff as a Senior Assistant Coach for 2026.

The 71 year old has previously been a head coach with the Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos and Chicago Bears. More recently, he’s held defensive assistant roles with the Indianapolis Colts and Detroit Lions.

Fox has made two Super Bowl appearances as a head coach, and looks to fill a veteran leadership role on Joe Brady’s staff. Brady, the NFL’s youngest head coach at just 36 years old, has never been a head coach prior to his appointment this offseason in Buffalo.

“Full transparency, I’d love to have [a staff member with head coaching experience]; it’s not a must,” Brady said following his hire. “There’s a fine line when you bring in coaches, and I’ve worked with coaches that have been in certain systems, and like, ‘This is the only way to do it.’ If there’s people that have had the experience that I can lean on will be great, but they’re not sitting there saying that they have all the answers. More so someone that can help me, bounce ideas off of. … The compatibility is way more important to me.”

Brady previously announced that Pete Carmichael would serve as the team’s new offensive coordinator, alongside defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard and special teams coordinator Jeff Rodgers. All in all, the team will feature 20 assistants with varying degrees of NFL experience:

  • Bobby April III, Outside Linebackers
  • Rob Boras, Run Game Coordinator/Tight Ends
  • Joe Danna, Secondary
  • John Egorugwu, Inside Linebackers
  • John Fox, Senior Assistant Coach
  • Austin Gund, Assistant Offensive Line
  • Bo Hardegree, Quarterbacks
  • Terrance Jamison, Defensive Line
  • Mark Lubick, Pass Game Specialist/Game Management
  • D.J. Mangas, Assistant Wide Receivers
  • Pat Meyer, Offensive Line
  • Jason Rebrovich, Senior Defensive Assistant
  • Craig Roberston, Defensive Quality Control
  • Kyle Shurmur, Assistant Quarterbacks
  • Kelly Skipper, Running Backs
  • Drew Terrell, Wide Receivers
  • Jay Valai, Cornerbacks
  • Alvin Vaughn, Defensive Assistant
  • Turner West, Assistant Special Teams

The team will look to usher in a new era in 2026 both on the sidelines as well as at home as they officially move into the New Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park later this year.
