Ketel Marte Dealing With Foot Injury

Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte was removed in the 7th inning of his team’s 5-3 win over the Giants on Wednesday with what the team is calling a right a foot contusion.

The infielder could be seen in visible pain on the field, and was ultimately lifted after consulting with trainers. After undergoing X-rays after the game, the team confirmed that there were no broken bones, and that Marte would be a game time decision for Friday’s contest against the Twins.

“He fouled that ball off his foot. I knew that it got him good,” manager Torey Lovullo said. “X-rays were negative, so I think we’re in a good spot so far.”

“I could tell by his body language he wasn’t feeling good. It just got to be too much. … The way I look at it, he’s one of the best players in the National League, and I want him on the field, but at a certain point, we’ve got to be smart about it.”

Arizona has been ravaged by injuries all season long. In addition to the slew of issues plaguing their pitching staff, the team has lost both their 1st basemen to potential season ending injuries, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. to a torn ACL, and Marte has been battling a variety of ailments for much of the 2025 campaign as well.

The 31 year old is currently slashing .281/.381/.511 to go along with 25 HRs and an .892 OPS, but missed a good chunk of the season early on with a hamstring injury.

Still, the club appears to have dodged a bullet for the time being, with Lovullo remaining optimistic his All-Star infielder will be available for the team’s upcoming series opener.

“I’ll pencil him in right now to start at second base in Minnesota on Friday, so I think hopefully we dodged a bullet. By [the seventh inning], I know that he was very uncomfortable. We had a 5-0 lead, and I felt like we could manage it from there,” Lovullo said.

Arizona is off for a day of rest on Thursday before heading to Minnesota for a 3 game series starting Friday night.
