Knicks Sign Mikal Bridges To 4 Year Extension

The New York Knicks have signed forward Mikal Bridges to a 4 year, $150M contract extension the club announced Thursday.

The deal will reportedly include a player option for the 2029-30 season, and feature a trade kicker as well. Bridges was eligible for a $156M max extension this summer, meaning he took a slight discount to facilitate the completion of the contract.

Originally acquired last summer for 5 first round draft picks, the 28 year old had an uneven first season at Madison Square Garden. On the year, Bridges averaged 17.6pts/3.2reb/3.7ast per contest across 37 minutes of playing time a night.

The former Villanova Wildcat once again played all 82 games of the regular season before the Knicks made a run to the Eastern Conference finals for the first time in 25 years. While his playoff run had peaks and valleys, his contributions in the second round series vs. the Celtics were invaluable in helping the club eliminate their Eastern rivals in 6 games last spring.

Bridges’ extension completes the final major offseason item for the Knicks front office. Earlier this summer, the club hired Mike Brown to replace Tom Thibodeau as their head coach, and added free agents Guerschon Yabusele and Jordan Clarkson.

New York’s core is now signed through at least the 2027-28 NBA season. Bridges, Hart, Jalen Brunson, and OG Anunoby are all under team control, with Brunson and Anunoby having player options for 2028-29, while New York controls a $22.4M team option for Hart in 2027-28. Karl-Anthony Towns is guaranteed under contract through 2026-27, though his deal features a $61M player option for 2027-28 which will be interesting to see whether or not he opts in or out as the upcoming season plays out.
