Wesley Fofana Undergoes Season Ending Surgery

Chelsea Football Club announced Saturday that defender Wesley Fofana underwent successful surgery on his injured hamstring, ending his Premier League season.

“Wesley was assessed by specialists this week after the 24-year-old suffered an injury of the muscle,” the club announced in a prepared statement. “Following that assessment, it was concluded that an operation would be required.”

“The 24-year-old will now begin his recovery and undergo rehabilitation with the club’s medical staff at Cobham over the coming weeks. Everyone at the club is fully focused on supporting Wesley in his recovery.”

The surgery ends an injury plagued campaign for Fofana, who was previously ruled out of the club’s upcoming trip to Brentford by manager Enzo Maresca earlier this week. The young defender was regular contributor for Maresca in the early part of the season, however has been nursing a nagging hamstring injury for the better part of the last 3 months.

Injuries have unfortunately been an all too common occurrence for Fofana in his professional career to date. He missed the entirety of last season after tearing his ACL, while also having suffered an horrific leg break during his time at Leicester.

Despite missing Fofana, and several other regular starters, Chelsea find themselves 4th on the Premier League table through 30 matches with a 15-7-8 record. Up next for the club is a 9am ET date with Brentford on Sunday morning.
