Houston Texans Sign Jalen Pitre To 3 Year Extension

The Houston Texas have come to terms on a new 3 year, $39M contract extension with defensive back Jalen Pitre the club announced Friday.

The new deal will feature $30M in guaranteed money for the 3rd year safety out of Baylor. Pitre oscillated between nickel cornerback and safety throughout much of the 2024 NFL campaign, making him a versatile piece of head coach DeMeco Ryans’ defence.

Pitre’s season was ultimately cut short after suffering a shoulder/pectoral injury in a Week 12 loss to the Tennessee Titans after attempting to tackle WR Tyler Boyd in the 2nd quarter of play. At the time of his injury, he had accumulated 65 tackles (44 solo, 21 assisted) including 6 tackles for loss, 2 QB hits, 1 INT and 1 forced fumble.

Over the course of his career, Pitre has amassed 296 tackles, six interceptions, a sack, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries, while starting all 46 regular season and playoff games in which he’s taken part in.

The deal is the second major signing of the offseason for Houston’s secondary after doling out a record setting 3 year, $90M contract extension to CB Derek Stingley Jr. in March. Pitre and Stingley Jr. were key components to a Texans defence which posted the 3rd best DVOA in the NFL last season, trailing only the Philadelphia Eagles and Minnesota Vikings.

According to reports out of Houston, Pitre is planning to participate in OTA’s which puts the 25 year old on track to enter training camp with a clean bill of health.
