Carmelo Anthony has been informed that he has been elected into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame class of 2025 according to multiple reports.
The 10x NBA All-Star was part of the vaunted 2003 NBA Draft class which also featured the likes of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh amongst others. Over the course of a 1,260 game career, the 6’7″ forward averaged 22.5 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game.
Arguably his most productive season came during the 2012-13 NBA campaign where he averaged 28.7pts per night, and finished 3rd in MVP voting with the New York Knicks. Though he never won an NBA championship, Anthony’s trophy case certainly isn’t lacking for hardware.
The 40 year old won a national championship with Syracuse in 2003, taking home the Final Four Most Outstanding Player award in the process. His number 15 has since been retired by his alma mater. He was a 6x All-NBA selection, led the league in scoring in 2013, was named to the All-Rookie First Team as well as the NBA 75th Anniversary team, and has 3 Olympic Gold Medals and one bronze as a member of USA Basketball.
“For me, that’s it. There’s nothing else in basketball I can do,” Anthony said on his podcast after learning he was a finalist for the class of 2025. “That’s the pinnacle, that’s the door. When you think about Hall of Famers who are already in there and the way they opened up the door for you, that’s a special moment. I’m going to embrace this. I’m enjoying this.”
Also up for induction this year is former NBA star Dwight Howard, WNBA superstars Sue Bird and Maya Moore, as well as Billy Donovan and Mark Few on the coaching side of things. The full class of 2025 will be announced on April 5th, with the induction ceremony taking place on September 5th.
