Erling Haaland Suffers Ankle Injury In Manchester City Win

All-world forward Erling Haaland was forced out of his team’s 2-1 win over Bournemouth on Sunday at the 60th minute mark with a left ankle injury.

Haaland appeared to hurt his ankle after Bournemouth defender Lewis Cook landed awkwardly on him in a 56th-minute tackle at the Vitality Stadium. The 24 year old attempted to play through the injury but was forced out a few moments later as he fell to the pitch in visible discomfort.

Ironically, his replacement, Omar Marmoush, scored the game winner just three minutes after taking Haaland’s place to put City up 2-1. With the victory, City are now through to the FA Cup semifinals at Wembley Stadium for a seventh season in a row.

“Seven times in a row reaching semi-finals in the FA Cup…this is outstanding. This generation of players, they have done this,” said City boss Pep Guardiola after the game. No additional updates on Haaland’s status were made made publicly available in the immediate aftermath of the contest.

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola spoke about his team’s missed opportunity to take advantage of a less than full strength City squad in his post game comments. “First half we played very well but second half the game was definitely for them,” said Iraola.

“We couldn’t keep the same intensity second half, we were a lot more passive and lacking in energy, especially up front.”

Manchester City will now take on Nottingham Forest in an April 26th clash at Wembley Stadium in the FA Cup semi finals.
