A 1 of 1 Shohei Ohtani card from the Topps 50/50 season release has sold for $1.067M including buyer’s premium at a Heritage Auctions event.
The 1/1 product features an on card autograph, as well as the Major League Baseball logo from the pants Ohtani wore in September of 2024 while hitting his 49th, 50th and 51st home runs and stealing his 50th and 51st bases against the Miami Marlins.
The sale also takes on added significance as it also becomes the 1st public Ohtani card sale to eclipse the $1M threshold. The previous record for an Ohtani card was $533,140 paid for a 2018 Bowman Chrome Rookie Autographs Orange Refractor rookie out of 25, sold by Goldin Auctions in November.
The Ohtani 50/50 MLB logo patch auto card still did not fetchas much as the Paul Skenes Rookie Debut Patch card, which was bought for $1.11 million by Dick’s Sporting Goods in an auction that ended last week.
Last October, the ball Ohtani hit for his 50th home run sold for a record $4.392 million to Taiwan-based investment firm UC Capital, which has since put it on public display.
With Ohtani’s popularity at an all time high, it’s likely that the sale represents the new norm for the two-way star’s market of collectibles moving forward. Ohtani’s overseas popularity makes him one of the truly international icons of the sport, which opens up additional markets for collectors to drive up prices for scarce game used items.
The buyer of the Ohtani 50/50 MLB logo patch card has yet to be revealed to the public.
