All world striker Erling Haaland has signed a record-breaking 9.5 year deal with Manchester City which will keep him tied to the club through 2034.
While City have yet to divulge any public figures regarding the contract, sources have confirmed that it is amongst the richest deals in sports history. The 9.5 year length also sets a new Premier League mark for the longest pact in the history of the league, eclipsing that of Cole Palmer signed back in August of 2024.
Haaland was under team control through 2027, but had been heavily linked to a possible move to Spanish giants Real Madrid or Barcelona in recent months. The new deal will remove buyout clauses which existed in his previous contract after the 24 year old arrived from Borussia Dortmund in 2022.
“I am really happy to have signed my new contract and to be able to look forward to spending even more time at this great club,” Haaland said.
“Manchester City is a special club, full of fantastic people with amazing supporters and it’s the type of environment that helps bring the best out of everybody.”
“I also want to thank Pep [Guardiola], his coaching staff, my teammates and everyone at the club as they have all helped me so much in the past couple of years. They have made this such a special place to be and now I am City no matter what. Now I want to keep developing, keep working to get better and look to do my best to try and help us achieve more success going forward.”
Already with 79 Premier League goals to his name in only 87 matches, Haaland seems destined to rewrite the history books several times over if he continues at his current pace and plays out the entirety of his contract. Newcastle United’s Alan Shearer currently holds the Premier League record for goals at 260, but could see the Norwegian breathing down his neck before the decade is up.
The deal is the latest long term commitment City have made to their current group of players and coaches and comes on the heels of Guardiola’s extension back in November.
With two Premier League titles, an FA Cup championship and a Champions League title to his name, Haaland has enjoyed a run of success unlike any other since signing on with the Cityzens. That being said, it’s been anything but easy times for Man City this year as they sport an uncharacteristic 10-5-6 record through 21 games, and sit 6th on the table heading into the weekend.
The club will next be in action on Sunday, January 19th against Ipswich Town before turning their attention to PSG in a Wednesday Champions League showdown.
