Gardner Minshew Suffers Broken Collarbone In Loss

Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Gardner Minshew reportedly suffered a season-ending broken collarbone in his team’s 29-19 loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday.

Minshew appeared to suffer the injury on a late 4th quarter sack by Broncos linebacker Cody Barton, landing awkwardly on his left shoulder and exiting the game immediately. The veteran QB was in visible pain and was taken directly to the locker room by the training staff.

“It doesn’t look good,” said head coach Antonio Pierce. “We’re going to need somebody, right?…We’re running out of quarterbacks, too, now, so we’ll see what happens. But obviously, it looks like [O’Connell is] getting better. He threw a little bit in practice this week.”

“Obviously, we’ve got a short week — play on Friday, travel on Thursday — so we have to make that decision very quickly.”

Losers of 7 straight games, the Raiders now sport a 2-9 record and are likely to be in the mix for a QB come next spring’s NFL Draft.

In 10 appearances this season Minshew passed for 2,013 yards, 9 TDs, and a career high 10 INTs while completing 66.3% of his attempts. If O’Connell isn’t ready to go next week, 25 year old Desmond Ridder could be in line to start vs. the Kansas City Chiefs.
