Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott will miss his team’s game Sunday vs. the Atlanta Falcons for what the team is labelling “disciplinary reasons”.
Elliott doesn’t carry an injury designation into the Week 9 contest, but did not travel to Atlanta with his teammates Saturday. The veteran running back inked a 1 year deal worth up to $3M with his former team in April, but has struggled to generate on field results in his second stint in Dallas.
Through the first 8 weeks of the season, the 29 year old has been limited to just 149 yards on 48 carries, with two TDs and 7 receptions. Sunday will mark the first time in his tenure with the Cowboys in which the former first rounder has been a healthy scratch.
Unfortunately, Elliott has been reduced to a short yardage plodder at this point in his career. An 11 yard run against the 49ers marked the longest scamper of the season for the former Buckeye, which is a far cry from his Pro Bowl days with Dallas between 2016-2019.
Fellow running back Rico Dowdle will handle the bulk of the Cowboys rushing attempts, while the club also elevated Dalvin Cook from the practice roster for the 2nd straight week.
Dallas is averaging just 74.1 rushing yards per game, putting them dead last in the NFL in that regard.
