Max Muncy Sets MLB Postseason Record In Dodgers’ Win

Dodgers infielder Max Muncy set a new MLB postseason record in his team’s 10-2 victory over the New York Mets on Thursday night, reaching base safely for the 12th consecutive time.

The mark bests the previous record of 10 held jointly by Billy Hatcher and David Ortiz, and ties Reggie Jackson’s record of 12 which was set over the course of two different postseason campaigns in the 70’s. The versatile infielder broke the record with a 5th inning walk, and extended it to 12 with a 7th inning single.

The streak came to an end shortly thereafter, with Muncy striking out in the 8th inning.

“It’s one of those things where I feel like I’m staying within myself and not trying to do anything too extraordinary,” Muncy told reporters after the game. “It’s allowed me to see the ball better and slow things down….It’s probably hard to do right now. There are lot of things going on with the atmosphere, but you just try not to do too much.”

The 34 year old battled injuries throughout the regular season, including an oblique strain which cost him 80 games. However he’s now hitting .296/.486/.667 across 9 playoff games so far, while tying Corey Seager and Justin Turner for the most postseason homers in Dodgers franchise history with 13 over the course of his career.

Currently leading the Mets 3 games to 1 in their NLCS series, Muncy and his Dodgers teammates have a chance to punch their ticket to the World Series tonight in a 5:08pm ET first pitch matchup. LA will turn to starter Jack Flaherty to close out the series tonight.

Should they fail to do so, the series will return to Los Angeles for Game 6 on Sunday, October 20th and Game 7 on Monday October 21st if necessary.
