Vikings Trade CB Andrew Booth To Cowboys

Vikings Trade CB Andrew Booth To Cowboys

The Minnesota Vikings and Dallas Cowboys came to terms on a swap of cornerbacks who were in need of fresh starts on Friday afternoon.

Heading to Dallas is Andrew Booth Jr, while Minnesota will add Nashon Wright to their roster as the clubs opt to make a rare 1 for 1 football deal. Booth was Minnesota’s 2nd round selection (42nd overall) from the 2022 NFL Draft, while Wright went a year earlier in the 3rd round of 2021’s annual event.

Wright is actually a cousin of Vikings cornerback Mekhi Blackmon, who unfortunately suffered a torn ACL on July 24th, which was the first full practice of Minnesota’s training camp. The former Oregon State product appeared in just 22 contests with Dallas throughout his NFL career, recording 1 interception and 3 starts.

Minnesota’s secondary has been ravaged this offseason following the tragic passing of rookie Khyree Jackson, Blackmon’s injury, and Shaquill Griffin dealing with a strained hamstring. As a result the club has brought in several veteran defensive backs in addition to the trade for Wright, including Duke Shelley, Cobi Francis and Fabian Moreau.

Meanwhile, the Cowboys will be adding a young corner with high upside as an insurance policy for Trevon Diggs who is making his way back from a torn ACL in his left knee. Booth appeared in 23 games (2 starts) for Minnesota recording 19 tackles with 1 pass defended along the way.

The former Clemson standout was reportedly high on the Cowboys draft board back in 2022, but the Vikings were able to select him before Dallas’ 2nd round selection came around. Booth ultimately became expendable for Minnesota after the hiring of defensive coordinator Brian Flores as it became evident that his skillset wasn’t a match for the coach’s system.
