The Denver Nuggets have signed free agent guard Russell Westbrook to a 2 year, veteran minimum, contract the club announced Friday.
The deal, which is worth $6.8M, features a player option for 2025-26 and an AAV of $3.4M per year.
Westbrook was initially traded to the Utah Jazz as part of a sign and trade deal for Kris Dunn, but became a free agent after Utah waived the veteran guard, making him a free agent. The 35 year old will provide some much needed depth and scoring ability off the bench for Denver after the club lost both Reggie Jackson and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope in the offseason.
The former league MVP averaged 11.1pts/5reb/4.5ast per game in 2023-24 in just over 22 minutes a night. He began the year as a starter with the Clippers but moved to a sixth man role after the club acquired James Harden midseason.
Westbrook has appeared in 1162 career games (1039 starts), averaging 21.7 points, 7.1 rebounds, 8.1 assists and 1.60 steals in 33.6 minutes per game. He has also appeared in 122 career playoff games (116 starts), averaging 23.6 points, 7.0 rebounds, 7.5 assists and 1.70 steals per contest.
With Westbrook set to join Nikola Jokic in the mile high city, the two will officially have more triple-doubles between them (329) than any other franchise has in club history. The Los Angeles Lakers would rank second on that list with 316.
