Anaheim Ducks forward Jakob Silfverberg has announced that he plans to retire from the NHL following the conclusion of the 2023-24 campaign.
Silfverberg split time between the Ottawa Senators and Anaheim Ducks over the course of his 12 season NHL career. The 33 year old has tallied 373 points (168G, 205A) across 817 games and counting. All but 48 of those contests were played in a Ducks jersey.
“It’s been an honor and privilege to play in the National Hockey League,” Silfverberg said in a statement. “I want to thank the Samueli family for being who they are, gracious, community-minded owners that support their team while making a significant impact in our community. Obviously, I wouldn’t be where I am without my teammates, all the trainers and staff that have helped me along the way. Most importantly, thank you to my family who have supported me as I lived out a dream.”
“Thank you to the fans around the League, specifically in Anaheim and Ottawa,” Silfverberg continued. “To spend 11 years in Orange County playing for the Ducks is something I will cherish every day, thanks in large part to all of you.”
The smooth skating Swede was acquire by Anaheim on July 5th, 2013 alongside Stefan Noesen and a 2014 1st round draft pick in exchange for Bobby Ryan. His 16 goals and 41 points in the postseason rank fourth all-time in Anaheim Ducks playoff history.
“On behalf of the entire Ducks organization, congratulations to Jakob on an outstanding NHL career,” Ducks general manager Pat Verbeek said. “He was the ultimate character player for the Ducks, Senators and his native Sweden, leading by example and always putting the team first. His contributions on the ice and in the Orange County community will have a lasting impact.”
Silfverberg’s final home game will take place Friday night at the Honda Center against the Calgary Flames in a 10pm ET showdown.
