The 2024 CEBL season is fast approaching, and one the league’s premier events is now officially in the books. 30 collegiate level players from across the U Sports, and CCAA landscape hear their names called as the results of the 2024 edition of the CEBL draft were announced Thursday.
All in all, 20 different Canadian post-secondary institutions had players selected, with 19 of those coming from the U Sports world, and Mohawk College becoming the first CCAA school to graduate a player into the CEBL ranks.
Montreal kept things local selecting 3 players from Quebec based institutions, while Jerry Jr. Mercury from Mohawk College became the first CCAA player taken in the CEBL draft in league history. CCAA athletes were eligible for selection this season for the first time following a rule change in the offseason.
Mercury is a 6’4″ forward who averaged 22.6 points and 10.4 rebounds per game for the Mountaineers in 2023-24.
The 2024 CEBL season officially kicks off on May 21st with a battle between the Calgary Surge and the Edmonton Stingers.
