Multiple suspensions from Brewers vs. Mets game

Multiple Suspensions From Brewers vs. Mets Game

Major League Baseball has announced multiple suspensions stemming from the Milwaukee Brewers 7-6 win over the New York Mets Saturday.

Mets reliever Yohan Ramirez received a 3 game suspension and an undisclosed fine for intentionally throwing at Rhys Hoskins during the top half of the 7th inning. Hoskins, who was at the centre of a dustup with Mets 2nd baseman Jeff McNeill on Friday, was in the midst of a solid day at the plate, recording his 1st homer of the season. Ramirez then intentionally threw behind him, causing tempers to flare once again.

In addition to Ramirez’s ban, manager Carlos Mendoza was also suspended for a game as well. While New York’s manager has opted to serve his suspension during the season finale vs. Milwaukee on Sunday, Ramirez has chosen to appeal his 3 game suspension.

The right handed reliever told reporters after the game that the 94mph fastball wasn’t thrown intentionally, and that he did not plan to hit Hoskins. The close call did however draw a loud ovation from the Mets faithful who were none to pleased about Friday’s incident.

“Just a late slide. We’ve had a little bit of a past so I knew there was a chance that he’d be coming in like that,” McNeil said after Milwaukee’s 3-1 victory the day prior. “Didn’t like his slide. I wasn’t trying to turn a double play at all. Just trying to catch the ball. There was no need to break it up.”

Milwaukee will aim for a series sweep on Sunday afternoon.
