Boston Bruins forward Milan Lucic will be taking an indefinite leave from the team following an off ice incident late Friday evening.
“The Boston Bruins are aware of the situation involving Milan Lucic Friday evening,” a written statement from the team said. “Milan is taking an indefinite leave of absence from the team. The organization takes these matters very seriously, and we will work with the Lucic family to provide any support and assistance they may need.” The Bruins said they would have “no further comment” at this time.
While the team stopped short of providing any details into the nature of the incident in question, several outlets are reporting that Lucic may have been involved in an alleged domestic incident.
The 35 year old rejoined the Bruins after spending the past 4 years with the Calgary Flames. Originally drafted in the 2nd round, 50th overall by Boston in 2006, Lucic had missed time with a lower body injury, limiting him to just 4 contests thus far in 2023-24.
Bruins captain Brad Marchand spoke to the media Saturday regarding the Vancouver native’s absence. “The biggest thing for us is we care a lot about their family. We are family in here, we’re all very very close, so we’re obviously concerned and upset for them and what they’re going through,” Marchand said.
Head coach Jim Montgomery echoed Marchand’s comments while also adding “Our culture here is great, and we care about each other. With that, it’s not a normal day. But we’re professionals, and we have a game to play tonight. We have to get ready for it.”
Through 15 games, the Bruins sit atop the Atlantic division with a 12-1-2 record. They’re next in action Saturday night vs. the Montreal Canadiens.
