The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired right handed RP Jordan Hicks from the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for RHP Sem Robberse and RHP Adam Kloffenstein.
Hicks, 26, had a rocky start to begin the year, allowing 11 earned runs through his first 14 innings. However, since then he’s posted a 1.88 ERA across 28.2IP, and has been effective as the Cardinals closer recording 8 saves on the year thus far.
Originally selected in the 3rd round of the 2015 MLB draft by St. Louis, the Cypress Creek HS star made his MLB debut in 2018. Since then, the hard throwing righty has gone on to post 28 saves, and 233Ks across 219.1IP at the major league level.
While Toronto had previously indicated they would be in the market for bullpen help, the need took on added importance after closer Jordan Romano was placed on the 15 Day IL Saturday with lower-back inflammation. The club recalled Nate Pearson from Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move, but Romano will be out until at least August 13th.
