The 2023 CEBL U-Sports draft class has been announced, as 20 varsity athletes were selected across two rounds this week. The U-Sports draft allows top collegiate players experience professional basketball alongside NBA, G-League, and International players from around the globe.
“This 2023 Draft class is elite. Congratulations to all twenty (CEBL U SPORTS) Draft picks. We can’t wait to see everyone take the court starting May 24 and hope that unique experiences and opportunities like this continue to help showcase and nurture the depth of talent within U SPORTS programs across this country. The future of pro basketball in Canada has never been brighter,” said CEBL commissioner Mike Morreale.
In their first season in the league, Winnipeg made hometown star Simon Hildebrandt their first ever draft pick following a standout U-Sports season. The Winnipeg native averaged 16.9pts and 5 rebounds per game for the University of Manitoba.
Standing 6’9”, Hildebrandt was named the U-Sports Rookie of the Year for 2022-23, while also garnering Secon Team All-Canadian honours as well.
